OTHER TIPS:

If vomiting, begin with ice chips, sips of water or a piece of popsicle. The idea is frequent, small amounts.

If diarrhea, give as much as the child wants at the time, then wait at least 3 hours, preferably 4, until the next feeding. The idea is to rest the intestines as long as possible.

CAUTION: Return to doctor if:

1. Unable to keep down clear liquids (continues to vomit).

2. Large watery diarrhea (looks like colored urine) or frequent large loose diarrhea or bloody diarrhea.

3. Continues to have more than 3-4 loose bowel movements per day and unable to progress diet.

4. Signs of dehydration: Dry mouth, sunken eyes, infrequent voiding (12 hours), listlessness.

5. If urine output is less than four times a day.
